How to curve text in AutoCAD, along Arc and Circle

Last Updated: January 30th, 2022By Categories: AutoCAD

With ARCTEXT express tool you can write curve text in AutoCAD which is aligned to an arc. This tool can’t be used to write curve text along the spline, polyline or circle but there is a workaround that can be used to make a text curved along the circle.

There are also some interesting text related tips like text mask and mirroring, you can see all of those tips as well.

Writing text on Arc:

To write curve text along arc type ARCTEXT on the command line and press enter. Click on the arc on which you want to make your aligned text, if the arc is a part of Polyline then explode the Polyline and then select arc.

A new ArcAlignedText Workshop window will pop up. Enter the text which you want to align to the arc in the text field, I am using “this is arc aligned text” as the sample text.

Set text height to appropriate size depending upon the scale of your drawing from properties panel and click on the left align arc text button on the top to align it towards the left side of the arc. Set the height of text as per your requirement using Text height field. See image below for reference.

Now click OK to apply changes and exit this window, your arc aligned text will look like the one shown in the image below.

You can also align this text in such a way that it covers complete space on the arc. For that type ARCTEXT on command line again press enter and click on the text which you created in the previous step. The ArcAlignedText Workshop window will pop up again providing you an opportunity to modify this aligned text.

Click on F (fit along the arc) from buttons on top of this window and click OK to exit it. Your text will now appear like this.

Writing text along a circle:

This command allows you to curve text in AutoCAD only along an arc, so you have to use a workaround for making text along a complete circle.

Make an arc with an included angle of 359 degrees or more and then a text can be written along its boundary. Here is the text I created along an arc with the angle of more than 359 degrees and later I replaced arc with a complete circle.

To make this text inside the circle select this icon concave text from the ArcAlignedText workshop window. The text on the concave side of the arc will look like image B as shown below.

Hi, I am using AutoCAD LT 2021 on a Mac. When I type in “arctext” in the command line, it tells me that this is an unknown command. Am I missing something? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

This is an express tool which is unfortunately not part of AutoCAD LT.

Hello. I am using AutoCad 2018 and trying to place text along an arc. Most Youtube videos show the text added to the the top half of an arc. I need the text to be on the bottom half of the arc. My text is always upside down and backwards. I see the icon to change the backwards text but not the upside down text . I have tried all the icons that show when I hit the ARC ALIGN icon but cannot get the text to read correctly. Any hints? Thank you.

Most companies in Africa to not appreciate what AutoCad can do to help them reduce costs. Hence their reluctance to send the users of this software for intensive training. Thank you to SourceCAD for this useful Free traing

In the ArcAligned Text Workshop Modify Menu there is a toggle-able button for reversing text order. It is symbolized with a lowercase b followed by a lowercase a with an arrow above them pointing towards the right.

Please respond me asap I try many thing to resolve it but it is not working I hope maybe you can give some solution.

        • Jaiprakash Pandey January 16, 2018 at 1:12 pm - Reply

I am not sure about this but as far as I think this ARCTEXT tool might not be compatible with custom fonts and Hindi font is obviously a custom font, not the default windows font.

2015 SEEMS TO HAVE LOST THIS FUNCTION OR IS HIDING VERY WELL- thanks!

    • Jaiprakash Pandey June 8, 2017 at 12:32 am - Reply

This is still available even in 2018 version!
This is part of the express tools and if you have plain AutoCAD version installed without express tools then you need to install express tools first for using these commands.
